THE ITALIAN BEAMLINE AT THE ESRF FUNDED BY CNR INFM INFN

GENERAL PURPOSE ITALIAN BEAM LINE FOR DIFFRACTION AND ABSORPTION

The PULS group is the coordinator for the GILDA project, an x-ray beamline at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility ( ESRF ) in Grenoble, France. The main scientific applications are X-ray absorption (XAFS) and x-ray scattering from amorphous samples and powders. The beamline is now in operation.

The GILDA project is a collaboration between groups belonging to INFN, CNR and several Italian Universities
( in particular: Cagliari, Camerino, Roma 2, Roma 3, Parma, Trento ). Funding is provided by INFN, CNR and INFM.

A description of the beamline is available. For a description of the optics see: S. Pascarelli, F. Boscherini,
A. Marcelli, and S. Mobilio, Rev. Sci. Instrum. 63 (1), 927 (1992).

Beamtime on GILDA is regulated by the CRG (Collaborating Research Group) contract between ESRF and the GILDA collaboration. One third of user beamtime is available to ESRF general users (see the application form); the remaining two-thirds is reserved for Italian users. In order to apply to the Italian beamtime the GILDA experiments proposal form must be filled in and sent to.
Note that Italian users may apply for beamtime on GILDA also through the ESRF quota.
