BTF 2019 call for applications

Frascati, January 31st, 2019

to INFN scientific comm. coordinators
to INFN group leaders
to BTF users

After a one-year shutdown to build a second beam-line, the Beam-Test Facility has resumed operations on the completely rebuilt BTF-1 line in July 2018. The BTF-1 line is devoted to both low and high-intensity beam, medium and long duration experiments: after recommissioning, the BTF-1 is delivering 550 MeV positrons for the PADME experiment since October 2018.

The new beam-line, BTF-2, will be devoted to low intensity (up to 10^6 particles/s) and medium-short duration experiments, with electron and positron beams. At a later time will be available also tagged photons.

Due to the ongoing operations of the PADME experiment, as well as the restart of the DAFNE collider, the beam will not be available full-time in 2019. After the completion of services of the new infrastructure (cooling, conditioning, radio-protection, etc.), and when the linac will be not fully devoted to the DAFNE commissioning, beam will be available for the test-beam, approximately starting from Spring 2019.

In view of the start of the BTF-2 line, we would like to invite interested users to submit their proposal using the usual online form: http://www.lnf.infn.it/acceleratori/btf/request.html (Old users can recover the password sending an e-mail to btf@lnf.infn.it)

In the first part of the year 2019, we plan to have an open call, with a quick evaluation of the compatibility of the proposed activities and approval by the Users Committee on a monthly basis.

We also strongly recommended to send (in addition to the online form) an email to btf@lnf.infn.it with a brief but complete description of the setup and required beam parameters, as well as the possible time slots for the test, taking into account the time needed for the access formalities: http://www.lnf.infn.it/acceleratori/btf/access/

Thanks for your collaboration from the BTF staff!
