Spy libraries

The spy libraries provide a unique interface to acquire events:

• from a circular buffer between a farm builder and a farm recorder
• from a remote farm machine (via the farm spy daemon )
• from a YBOS file

Two libraries are present in the spy package:

• the standard spy library

  The standard spy library contains the essential routines needed by any application that use the spy. The application that uses this library does not need to know from where the event come out (local circular buffer, remote machine or YBOS file), since this distinction is made by the spy daemons that run localy on the machine.

• the extended spy library

  The extended spy library is a more specialized one. It allows the applications to bypass the spy daemons and specify themselves from where they get the events (i.e. from a circular buffer between a farm builder and a farm recorder, from a remote farm machine [via the farm spy daemon ] or from a YBOS file).

  This freedom can be very usefull for specialized programs, like test and debug ones, but it complicates the source code and can introduce problems and degrade performances. For this reason should be used for special puropses only.

The two libraries can convive in the same application, since they use different names for the routines and types. However, the combined use of the two libraries is strongly discouraged.
