Tusculum
TTusculum is the latin name of the area around and above
the town of Frascati. Its first historical record dates back to the
year 500 B.C. when the town of Tusculum, which belonged to the
powerful Albanian League was defeated by the romans. The name reflects
an etruscan origin, since Tusculum, according to the roman historian
Festo is connected to Tuschi, Etruschi that is. However ther are
no remnants of Etruscan origin now.
It is believed that Cicero, the famous roman legislator and advocate, had his
Villa in this area and that the "Tuscolanae" were indeed written
here. This area indeed was favoured by many important political
people from the city of Rome, due to its panoramic view and healthy
environment.
