Limits on Lambda_c^+ -> p K^+ pi^- and D_s^+ -> K^+ K^+ pi^- obtained with Genetic Programming

Abstract

Genetic programming is a method for allowing computers to discover a computer program which fits data or solves a problem.

Populations of these small computer programs are created and evolved through processes mimicing Darwinian evolution. Computer programs are allowed to reproduce, mutate, and breed. The  best, or most fit, programs pass their "genes" on to sucessive generations.

We have used this technique to search for doubly Cabibbo supressed decays of the charmed hadrons Lambda_c^+ -> p K^+ pi^- and D_s^+ -> K^+ K^+ pi^-. Limits on these decays will be presented following a discussion of genetic programming.
