Advertisement for two Jobs at LBL

The Physics Division at LBNL has two different
jobs that may interest you or a colleague:
1) Editor for the Review of Particle Physics,
2) Particle physicist, halftime in PDG, half in Research.

They are described below.

- -----------------------------------------------

LAWRENCE BERKELEY NATIONAL LABORATORY
PHYSICS DIVISION

Editor for the Review of Particle Physics

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is seeking an individual
with a strong background in particle physics to be the editor
of the Review of Particle Physics (RPP), a publication of the
international Particle Data Group. The editor will have final
responsibility for producing the RPP book and its web edition.

This position requires good editing and computing skills as
well as an understanding of the physics issues. The individual
must maintain current knowledge of particle physics, although
the position does not involve doing particle physics research.
Substantial graduate work or Ph.D. in particle physics is
required plus significant scientific computing experience, with
background in databases preferred.

The position also involves the management of the RPP scientific
database and software. This requires expertise in use of TeX
or LaTeX and HTML. Knowledge of programming in languages such
as Java, XML, Perl, etc. is desirable. Familiarity with Adobe
Illustrator and Photoshop would also be helpful.

The RPP editor will act as a consultant to others in the
international Particle Data Group to solve a wide variety of
problems, and must be able to work effectively in a team
environment.

Deadline for applications is March 15, 2003. A letter of
application, a curriculum vitae, and the names and addresses of
three potential references should be sent to:

        Ms. Madelyn Bello (Job #015396)
        Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
        One Cyclotron Road, Bldg. 50A4037
        Berkeley, CA 94720-8152

Questions (but not applications) may be sent to
barnett@LBL.gov; please refer to Job #015396 in the email.

LAWRENCE BERKELEY NATIONAL LABORATORY
PHYSICS DIVISION

The Physics Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
(LBNL) has a position for an experienced Particle Physicist.
The position involves working half-time with the Particle Data
Group (PDG) and half-time conducting research in a Physics
Division experiment (such as ATLAS, BaBar, CDF, D0, or SNAP).
The position may be either a term or career position, depending
on seniority. A term appointment would be converted to a
career position contingent upon demonstrated effectiveness in
PDG responsibilities and in particle physics research.

The applicant will be expected to play an important role in the
Physics Division's experimental program. An outstanding
capability in experimental research is required. The candidate
should be qualified to take a leadership role in the PDG at a
future time.

The applicant must have sufficient experience (equivalent to at
least four years of postdoctoral work) in experimental particle
physics to have a very broad overview of the field, a critical
eye for both scientific and editorial work, and an ability to
organize and summarize information. Excellent writing and
editing skills are required. The individual must be able to
work effectively in a team environment.

Deadline for applications is December 1, 2002. A letter of
application, a curriculum vitae, and the names and addresses of
three potential references should be sent to:
