The Long Interval NeUtron Survey-meter

LINUS

is a new type of rem counter developed by

INFN

(LNF Radiation Protection Group and Section of Milan)

 

Detector

  • cylindrical BF3 proportional counter (95% 10B enrichment);

  • diameter = 2.54 cm;

  • active length = 5.08 cm;

  • pressure = 8.0x104 Pa.

Moderator

  • inner polyethylene :

    • thickness =1.9 cm;

  • boron doped synthetic rubber attenuator:

    • outer diameter=7.6 cm;

    • length =14 cm;

    • thickness = 0.6 cm;

  • Lead attenuator:

    • thickness = 1 cm;

  • outer polyethylene:

    • thickness = 7 cm.

Response

The response function is extended to several hundred MeV.
