Configuration of the KLOE Networking Environment
M.L.Ferrer, F.Fortugno, M.Pistoni and P.Santangelo
January 31, 2001
The network of the KLOE computing environment has been reconfigured.
The aim
of this reconfiguration is to remove a probable malfunction of the
FDDI module of the Xylan OmniSwitch/Router.
The key features of this new configuration are:
- the FDDI network (192.135.26) is dedicated to data acquisition,
- the Ethernet network (192.135.25) is used for normal operations including
data movement, NFS, AFS and interactive access to computers,
- because of this configuration, routing is technically unnecessary for
normal operations and data acquisition and any explicit attempt to route
packets between the two networks is highly discouraged,
- the connection between KLOE and LNF is
Ethernet (now at 10 Mbps through the LNF Cisco Router
and soon at 1 Gbps when LNF networking equipments will be
upgraded);
all other external networks are also accessed through
the same path.
The new network configuration is presented in Fig.1
Main characteristics of the FDDI GIGASwitch are presented in Appendix A.
The OmniSwitch connections are presented in Appendix B.
