This is a quick and simple approach to create a pdf file and it usually produces a pdf file without problems.
Ghostscript/Ghostview and for Mac user MacGSView, are used to create the pdf files from the PostScript files.
These programs are used as Postscript viewers and file converters.
These programs are shareware and run on a big number of platforms.
You can download the software at: www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/
The instructions to convert a file to PDF format are the following:
1. Install a postscript printer driver on your system. You don’t need the printer, just the driving routines for a post script printer.
2. Make a .prn format file of your original file by printing it to a file (mark the "print to file" box in your printing dialogue box).
3. Be sure to save this file as .ps instead of .prn or whatever other default file type is offered (you may rename it as .ps).
4. Convert your .ps format file.
4.1. For Windows users: Open your .ps format file in Ghostview.
4.2. For Mac users: Open your .ps format file using macps2pdf, that's all, if are in trouble rename the .ps file as test.ps.
5. For Windows users: Do "Convert" from the "File" menu, using the pdfwrite device, putting the resolution to 600.
