AdA

Historic Site
of the European Physical Society (EPS)

AdA, Anello di Accumulazione, the first particle-antiparticle accelerator ever built.
In AdA, electrons and positrons were made to circulate in opposite directions in the same ring
and brought to collide in the center of mass, transforming all the initial energy into new particles.
AdA was built in 1960 at the INFN Frascati National Laboratory, Italy, by a small team of physicists and engineers,
under the leadership of the theorist Bruno Touschek. AdA had a short scientific life, but it remains a milestone in the history of science.
