Investigatinglocal structure and magnetism of Co nano-structures

        This bilateral project is focused on the synthesis and characterization of magnetic nanoparticles approved and funded in the framework of the executive programme for scientific and technological cooperation between the italian republic and the republic of india approved for the years 2012 – 2014.
       The first Agreement on Scientific and Technological Cooperation between the Italian Republic and the Republic of India, has been signed in New Delhi, on 28th November 2003 and entered into force on 3rd November 2009 between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Italy and the Ministry of Science & Technology of the Republic of India.
       The agreement recognizes the growing importance of science and technology with the respect to the economical, social and cultural relations of the two Countries and the need to develop and to promote bilateral cooperation in the field of science and technology.
       Magnetic nanoparticles have many applications ranging from biomedicine, e.g., drug delivery, tumour treatment; to high density magnetic recording media, solar energy transformers, ferrofluids, etc.. Actually, properties of nanosystems are intermediate between the bulk counterpart and isolated atoms but sometime they exhibit enhanced properties that can be optimized if local structural, electronic and magnetic properties are well characterized. Magnetic nanosystems are extremely interesting because of their exceptional properties such as high saturation magnetization, low coercivity, high permeability and high Curie temperature already used in many applications.
       Combining spectroscopy and multi-harmonic magnetic susceptibility, we will exploit a new approach to characterize these innovative materials. Indeed, the study of the non-linear electron dynamic transport processes and the spectroscopic analysis represents a new strategic approach returning unique information on dynamic electronic properties and structural behaviour of nano-materials, fundamental information for all foreseen applications.
       These cooperation may really open for the institutions involved new scientific and technological opportunities.
