Nanoscience & Nanotechnology

November 14 - 16, 2005

Villa Mondragone, Sala degli Svizzeri

Nanotechnology is an enabling technology, with high potential impact on virtually all fields of mankind activity (industrial, health-related, biomedical, environmental, economy, politics, etc.), yielding high expectations for a solution to the main needs of society, although having to address open issues with respect to its sustainability and compatibility.

November 14 - 16, 2005 the International Conference "Nanoscience&Nanotechnology (n&n2005)" will gather at Villa Mondragone in Frascati, Italy, leading experts in research and innovative technologies in bio-medical, aerospace, optoelectronics, instrumentation & services fields, coming from both the academic research and the industrial areas, including scientists of different background (physicists, chemists, biologists, engineers, physicians), researchers and executives from industries, as well as national security and military defense experts.

The Conference, chaired by Dr. S. Bellucci and Prof. A. Bergamaschi, patronized by INFN (Italian Institute for Nuclear Physics), the University of Rome Tor Vergata and MTS Systems Corporation is intended as an opportunity for concrete planning of future devices, based on innovative (nano)materials, involving both industrial entities and public research institutes, as well as for presentation by sponsoring firms of their instrumentation and success stories, based on current use by significant customers.

In order to foster the exchange of knowledge and the collaboration among the different stakeholders in the field of nanotechnology, offering also an opportunity for those who are just now beginning to get involved with it, allowing them to get contacts and prime, up-to-date information from the experts, a special poster and equipment session on Tuesday 15th afternoon will be devoted to the exhibit by various firms of their institutional activities in selected areas of application where nanoscience can have a deep impact. There will be the possibility for sample testing - on demand by a selected number of participants.

Tutorial lectures are foreseen, addressing general and basic questions about nanotechnology, such as what they are, how does one go about them, what purposes can they serve. In tutorial sessions the nature of nanotechnology, the instruments of current use in its characterizations and the possible applicative uses will be described at an introductory level.
