How to reach Frascati and LNF

Airports

Rome is served by two international airports:

  • Leonardo da Vinci airport in Fiumicino (FCO): Rome's largest airport, serving all major airlines.
  • Ciampino airport in Ciampino (CIA): mostly serving low-cost airlines.
  • You can reach LNF from either airport by train or by car.

    Taxi and car

The fastest way to reach Frascati and LNF is to catch a taxi, which will take you to LNF in about 40 minutes from Fiumicino airport, or 20 minutes from Ciampino airport. Taxis are available at the airport or could be reserved from the secretariat upon request.

If you plan to rent a car, instructions on how to reach LNF can be found on the laboratory web page (click here).

    Trains

From Fiumicino airport you can reach Frascati and LNF via the Roma Termini railway station. The Leonardo Express trains for Roma Termini leave the Fiumicino airport approximately every 15 minutes, except early and late trains, starting at 6:23 and up to 23:23.

Once in Termini station you can reach the town of Frascati on the Rome-Frascati line. Check the timetable for train departures. From Frascati train station, most hotels can be reached on foot or by a short taxi ride. Upon request, Hotel Villa Mercede will provide transportation from the Frascati train station to the hotel.

If you wish to go directly to LNF from Rome, you can take the regional trains on the Roma-Colleferro-Frosinone-Cassino line and get off at Tor Vergata railway station. Beware that not all of the trains stop in Tor Vergata! Check the timetable for train departures. Upon exiting the station in Tor Vergata, the laboratories are located 200 meters uphill, on the left-hand side along Via Enrico Fermi (state your name at the interphone at the small green gate). Please notice that the Lab is about 1-2 km from the hotels.

Ciampino airport is a short distance from Ciampino train station, which lies on both the Rome-Frascati and Rome-Cassino lines. A bus between Ciampino airport and Ciampino station is available, with a typical journey time of 10 minutes. For more information, see here. For the timetable of trains between Ciampino and Tor Vergata/Frascati, please check the Trenitalia webpage.

Tickets for the Leonardo Express train to Roma Termini can be bought directly at Fiumicino Airport railway station for 14€. Additional tickets from Roma Termini to Frascati or Tor Vergata can be bought at the Fiumicino railway station for 2.10€ and 1.50€, respectively. Alternatively, tickets to Frascati/Tor Vergata can be bought at Termini station, at ticket machines or in newspaper/tobacco shops.

Participants landing at Ciampino airport can buy the bus tickets to Ciampino railway station from the bus driver and the train tickets to Tor Vergata/Frascati at ticket offices or machines in the Ciampino railway station.

Regional train tickets must be stamped before boarding any train by using the machines located by the platforms. If you plan to return to Rome from Tor Vergata, it is recommended to buy your return ticket already at Termini/Fiumicino/Ciampino stations, since it is not possible to buy tickets at Tor Vergata station.
